Ovlov, LVL UP, Disco Doom and Bad History Month @ BAR on Wednesday April 2

CT powerhouse OVLOV are playing BAR on Wednesday, in what appears to be some sort of dream lineup. Joining them are LVL UP, Disco Doom and Bad History Month!

From the FACEBOOK EVENT

Ovlov
The Connecticut indie rock scene is scrappy and dedicated to burning its mark into the vibrant sound of the North East. At the heart of it all lies OVLOV, a rare breed of band dedicated to the finer things in life, plugging in, turning the amps way up, and giving the world what it needs… blistering loud rock shows.

2013 marks the band’s long awaited and heavily anticipated full length debut Am, set for a spring/summer release on Exploding In Sound Records (Pile, Speedy Ortiz, Fat History Month). Produced, mixed, and mastered by Michael Thomas III, the album is sure to drop jaws of fans old and new. OVLOV will head out in support of Am with labelmates Grass Is Green this May.

Lead by Steve Hartlett (vocals/guitar), a true champion of the underground CT scene since his high school days, OVLOV formed during the summer of 2008, striking upon a mix of early 90’s indie guitar rock, slow burning power pop, and swarming walls of shoegaze distortion. The band has released several EPs since, “Crazy Motorcycle Jump” (2009) and “What’s So Great About The City” (2011) with an ever evolving line-up of conspirators including Theo Hartlett (drums), Jon Hartlett (bass), Michael Falcone (drums), Quentin Ham (guitars), Dave Berliner (bass) and countless others that have joined the band live. Steve Hartlett is the glue that holds everything together, an exceptional songwriter that manages to infuse impossibly catchy melodies under the thickest slabs of distortion and feedback. OVLOV return listeners to the glorious days of Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, Hum, and
Pavement while reaching within to create a unique sound that encapsulates the charm of destructive hooks and buzzing riffs with the honest delivery of Hartlett’s dazzling vocals.

LVL UP was formed by Dave Benton and Mike Caridi while attending school at SUNY Purchase in late 2010. The project was intended to be a creative outlet for lofi pop songs with an emphasis on brevity. After recording a few demos and garnering a positive response, LVL UP became a full band with the additions of Ben Smith, Nick Corbo and Greg Rutkin. October 2011 saw the release of LVL UP’s debut full length "Space Brothers" on cassette, followed by a vinyl release in February 2012 on Evil Weevil Records. The record received modest attention, exciting a small but dedicated fan base in the northeast United States.

LVL UP saw departure of guitarist Ben Smith late 2012. The now four-piece entered the studio winter 2012-2013 to record their second release, "Extra Worlds". This release experimented with both hi-fi and lo-fi recording techniques, while still keeping to the indie-rock/pop song structure of "Space Brothers". "Extra Worlds" was released on Double Double Whammy in April of 2013.

LVL UP has shared the stage with bands such as Real Estate, Beach Fossils, Japanther, The Babies, Bomb the Music Industry, and Joyce Manor.

Disco Doom exists since 13 years and is based in Zurich, Switzerland. Currently they play as trio - mainly two guitars and a drum, sometimes a bass or some keyboard. Core of the band are Gabriele De Mario (main singer, guitar) and Anita Rufer (guitar, bass, keys, vocs). For the new record Trux Reverb Jason Albertini (Seattle/WA and Arcata/CA) is playing drums. He's know from his own actual project Helvetia, the earlier band Duster and as bass player of the very early Queen of the Stone Age. For the coming shows Disco Doom plays with the drummer Grégoire Quartier from Bulle/CH, known from bands and projects like Cortez, Black Cargoes, Deconstructing Drumboys.
In the last two years Disco Doom released the album 'Dream Electric' and the tour EP 'Green Exciter'. But mainly they did tour in Europe and the US for about 100 shows to open for the band Built To Spill, did some shows with Dinosaur Jr. and did also play with Butthole Surfers and Lou Barlow and the Missing Men. They did play such great places like THE Fillmore San Francisco, Webster Hall New York, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Echoplex Los Angeles, Koko London, Apolo Barcelona, Rockefeller Oslo, First Avenue Minneapolis, Comodore Ballroom Vancouver, Lee's Palace Toronto, 40 Watt Club Athens, Maroquinerie Paris, and and and
Disco Doom got a Werkjahr from the Popkredit/City of Zurich in 2004.
