Tick Hive is the moniker of Matt DP who is the newest member of CT's finest Florida=Death. Tick Hive has been releasing material for some time now, and Matt has already shown himself to be an amazing innovator of sound. His newest releases is called "Oracle of Love" and is released on Quantum Wampum.
I recently asked a bunch of local musicians to give me a list of their top 10 favorite records or songs of all time. Easy you say? It is actually a lot tougher than you would think! Today we have Danielle who is the singer and guitarist of (one of the hottest indie bands in the state) Loom with her top 10 favorite records of all time.
The few who know me know that I tend toward music that has no real categorization, and sometimes even less information. On occasion we get submissions of this kind and I instantly take to them. One such submission is by Lake Kwan Do, in the form the their EP "Recordings".
They released one of the best records last year and now it seems New London Garage rockers Straight To VHS have struck again. With the release of “Weekend, Weekend, Weekend” the Wailing City three piece have solidified themselves as a band not to mess with.
Chris Modeen makes odd folk music with a real pop edge. His home recorded "Dinosaurio" is mainly acoustic guitar and various takes of his vocals. He has a Kev MF King, or Modest Mouse vibe, but with a darker vocal sense.
Ledges kick into their EP_1 with "Somebody's Number", a super poppy and fuzzy summer tune. Massive fuzz tone in this with great vocals and killer drums. Reminiscent of High Pop or Ovlov.
"Another Day" is a bass led song with really pretty guitar chiming in intermittently. A more urgent, perhaps emo vibe to this song, without falling too heavily into that or any specific genre. "Death Ray Run" closes out this brief EP with more upbeat pop vibes. Serious grooves in the breakdown of this song. These guys definitely have a knack for composing parts and putting them together. This is a very strong intro to this band, who we hope is currently making some more tunes for our ears!
dave Go and the Guy from Beastmaster is a project led by Dave from Florida=Death. He released 2 very different but still brilliant albums in September, a pair of themed musical collages called "reel (sic)" and "dear darwin, kill jesus"

The Danbury Lie are still going strong and weird. On their newest release "Fourth Time's a Charm" they continue down the awkward and creepy path they began paving early 2012.
Peaer is the artist name of Peter, formerly of Fugue and Poverty Hollow. He has a new deep dark moody album of weirdo prog songs that is well worth your time. He also couldn't have possibly chosen a better album cover for the sound of this album.
Here's a fun/cool/weird 3 track EP by Torrington/Litchfield's Melt. "Funny You Should Mention" is like a fuzzy old song from the glory days of underground rock. At once sounding both classic and new this song sounds brooding and dark but heartfelt, with uneasy guitars and sweet effected croons. This song also plays in 3 different tempos in a mere 3 and a half minutes.
Dr. Martino are a band in Willimantic that moved there from Florida earlier this year. They have been playing shows and have released their new EP "Big Day" which is brimming with good time tunes to brighten your parties and fill up your ears!

Big ass show this weekend deep in New Preston. If you haven't been to New Preston it's really quite something, and this is a perfect opportunity as there are awesome bands playing, and it will also be Hubbell Mountain's last show for the foreseeable future!
The Folks at Three Sheets ( 372 Elm St.) in New Haven have done a swell job shedding the image left behind by Elm Bar and have turned their business into a destination point in downtown New Haven. They have great food, some fabulous micro brewery beers on tap and best of all, all the shows are free.
Loner Chic have debuted their first release, an EP called Pretty Void. It is chocked full of pop punk and garage rock goodness!

Kev MF King is back with his 3rd EP in a trilogy of recordings that are the representation of roughly a year's worth of songwriting. On "Canned Goods" he most certainly explores the expanse of his abilities.
CT powerhouse OVLOV are playing BAR on Wednesday, in what appears to be some sort of dream lineup. Joining them are LVL UP, Disco Doom and Bad History Month!
