The Gabba Ghouls feature members of Jacques Le Coque and rock with some serious retro punk delight! They just released a brand new limited cassette today just in time for Halloween!
The Gabba Ghouls tape opens with a dark groove nightmare reminiscent of punk rock Tom Waits or Captain Beefheart. Titled "Nightmare Cheese Pizza" this song is a perfect spooky intro to this tape. Another notable track in first half is "Spook You" which has a skewed and manic Tom Petty vibe. Like if Mr. Petty was deep in the throws of night terrors!
The same vocal "character" from "Nightmare Cheese Pizza" shows back up for "Mix My Spaghetti", with more of a Jon Spencer swagger. All of the songs on this tape so far are prime creepy party material. "Meatball Sub" its a silly prog punk song that really stands out. The shrill vocals and mean drums really give it a delightfully annoying presence.
"My Baby Smells Like The Dead" is another super poppy punk hit. This is a blazingly fast song filled with energy, riffs and synth. The closer "We Disappear" is a fittingly eerie waltz, bringing this super fun tape to a close. Get one of these quick as they are limited to 100 orange cassettes. Pick one up Wednesday (Devil's Night) @ Cafe 9 with Lust-Cats of The Gutters and Mannequin Pussy.
