Gospel Music
Gospel Music is the lo-fi twee pop side project of Black Kids bassist Owen Holmes. Diverging from the glossy, stylish Black Kids sound (as well as any expectations set by the project's name), Gospel Music offers charmingly ramshackle tunes in the vein of the Moldy Peaches, delivered with Holmes’ deadpan, Calvin Johnson-esque vocals. The project debuted in fall 2010 with the EP Duettes, a collection of rapid-fire songs written for two singers, featuring such guest vocalists as Darren Hayman (Hefner), Shirley Simms (Magnetic Fields), and Cassie Ramone (Vivian Girls). Gospel Music followed up with its first full-length record, How to Get to Heaven from Jacksonville, FL, released the following fall on Kill Rock Stars.
Ghost of Chance
Ghost of Chance are an experimental rock band based in New Haven, Connecticut. The group's distinctive style is characterized by subtle time signature changes and sonically open experimentation set to surrealist lyrics. Ghost of Chance's sound takes its influence from 1960s psychedelica, '70s glam, math rock and post-punk while maintaining the shimmer of classic pop sensibilities. All of this adds to the unique yet familiar sound that Ghost of Chance have cleverly cultivated. Engaging the audience with a nervous energy and the desire to communicate, Ghost of Chance share a sense of imperativeness with great pop predecessors like the 13th Floor Elevators and John Cale -- sincerity combined with pop knowledge.
Speakeasy
Born on Christmas 2010, Speakeasy of Windham, CT is a three-piece ensemble consisting of Max Loignon (Vocals, Guitar), Matt Samiotes (Vocals, Bass) and Alex Smith (Vocals, Percussion). Their music draws elements from both the blues and folk genres while an organic, lo-fi garage aesthetic transmutes this combination into a rawly unique sound. Affectionatly self-proclaimed as the fictitious genre “Garage Glam,” all members of Speakeasy contribute equally to the writing process. Max comes to practice with a catchy riff, dripping with soul and blues and the song evolves over a sassy beat from Alex and then again under Matt’s sultry bassline. As a result, Speakeasy’s sets are seamless in that it is difficult to tell which of them “wrote the song.” The music fully reflects their collaborative nature and emulates what they stand for as both musicians and loyal friends. They have recently released their full length album "Southpaw" available on their bandcamp and at shows!

gee, the site is called CT Indie ... if it was called New Haven Indie, then maybe only New Haven shows would be listed.
Not everyone can make it to New Haven. so, if they cannot make it to Cafe Nine, should they stay home? Knowing about other shows is a positive thing.
