CT INDIE SUMMER MIX TAPE
Hey all. This is a call out to all CT area musicians. We are compiling a free "Mix Tape" to put online in mp3 format, and to be made into free tapes we will all be passing out in an effort to get people psyched for summer shows. If your band is playing shows and wants to submit a track or two, please send it to us at ctindiemusic@gmail.com. You could also just drop it in the DropBox! We have a tentative deadline of May 20 for a potential June 1st release. If you have any questions, just ask!

Hybrid Or Emergent Form? Vaura posit this musical question
Vaura is a new Brooklyn, New York City-based band that is comprised of members of Dysrythmia, Gorguts, Kayo Dot, Secret Chiefs 3 and Religions To Damn. It features Josh Strawn (guitar/vocals), Kevin Hufnagel (guitar), Charlie Schmid (drums) and Toby Driver (bass). Given the band's avant garde musical pedigree, one might have some sort of idea on how they might sound, but get prepared to have your expectations upended, because on their Wierd Records debut, "Selenelion", they put forward a sound that merges post-punk with shots of metallic heaviness, and a little pop thrown in for good measure. It's infectious and well worth hearing. With the band coming to Lilly's Pad in New Haven on April 1, for a show with post-black metal acolytes Alcest and Connecticut instrumental metal masters De Omega, we sent some e-mail questions to Strawn and here are his answers. We suggest if you like what you read and hear, then check them out, you'll be glad you did.

From the ashes of old bands comes new ones. When the members of Speedy Ortiz's other bands split up (the sadly missed: Quilty, Graph and Ovlov) members of these bands got together to explore their tastes in a new setting: SPEEDY ORTIZ.

Birds In Row: Hardcore With A French Flavor
Birds In Row are an awesome hardcore band from Laval, France who while on their first United States tour with the equally impressive Loma Prieta, will make a stop at the The Space in Hamden on Sunday. The band, which consists of xBartx (guitar/vocals), Ditow (bass/vocals) and Timmy (drums), have recently signed to Deathwish Inc. and will be releasing a new album through them sometime this year. Right now, Vitriol Records, has reissued two of the band's previous releases, the "Rise Of The Phoenix" 7" and the "Cottbus" LP as one full length record called "Collected", which is definitely worth picking up if you are a fan of quality music and quality packaging. (Vitriol always does something extra with their physical releases, bless them.) So, we sent the band some questions and here are their answers. True to their hardcore ideals, they answered these questions collectively. So, enjoy and don't miss the show this Sunday. (Info on that will follow below.)

New Single from Ghost of Chance - I Feel Fine
It is growing more and more uncommon in today's world of instant information and constant second guessing to find someone who knows their strengths and abilities and has the confidence to explore and display them. Few and far between are artists of all mediums and genres who can muster the bravery to say "I love this and I am good at it, so I will do the hell out of it!". The boys of Ghost of Chance, led by local wizard Jayson Munro have the courage.
