Over the course of three decades James Velvet has released a dozen collections of his original songs, solo and with his groups The Mocking Birds and The Ivory Bills.
Now, with The Lonesome Sparrows, comes Black Velvet Royalty. The Lonesome Sparrows features Velvet with fellow Mocking Birds Johnny Java (bass, percussion) and Dick Neal (dobro, banjo, mandolin) and long time farm market/bar room accomplice Johnny Memphis (acoustic guitar, fiddle.)
Ponybird is the latest step in the evolution of New Haven artist, writer, percussionist, singer, scenester Jenn Dauphinais. The group features Andre Roman (lead guitar) Robert Dauphinais (bass) and Jay Bates (percussion.) The group will be performing Jenn’s tunes from last year’s Full Cold Moon.
The John Slade Ely House (Paul Clabby, curator) is a non-profit art center founded in 1961 in a converted Elizabethan-style mansion. Its beautiful rooms house art exhibits all year long, and the occasional concert.
The Sparrows will be also perform on April 25 at The Meriden Daffodil Festival, and May 7 at The Huntington Street Cafe in Shelton.
